Wilkes Central High School is located outside Wilkesboro, NC, in the community of Moravian Falls. Wilkes Central has been a member of the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference since the start of the 97-98 school year. The MVAC is a split 2A/3A conference. The 2A schools are Forbush, North Wilkes, Surry Central, and West Wilkes. The 3A schools are Ashe County, North Surry, and Wilkes Central. Prior to joining the MVAC Wilkes Central was a member of the Foothills Athletic Conference.
