I'm in my seventh year of attending Wilkes Central wrestling matches, and for the first time the Eagles scored a tournament victory. In a thriller that saw the lead seesaw back and forth between Central and South Stokes, the Eagles came from 6 points back in the Championship finals to win by 6.

The Eagles sent 6 wrestlers into the Championship finals and 4 into the Consolation finals. Those 10 men picked up 3 Gold medals, 3 Silver medals, and 2 Bronze medals.

At 103 pounds, Brian Sharp won Gold with a 1st period pin; this tied the two schools at 156.

In the 145 pound match, Allan Strickler struck Gold in overtime to move the Eagles ahead 160-156.

When Charlie Garrett picked up his Gold medal with a 1st period pin in the 160 pound class, and the score moved to 166-156, the victory was sealed. The Sauras of South Stokes picked up another win at 189 to make the final score 166-160

Silver medalists were John Holloway (125), Phillip Stone (130), and Bryant Reid (152). Bronze medalists were James Pickard (112) and William Farmer (215).
